DEALING WITH DEER AND OTHER CREATURES
Deer Resistant Plants
Many people have to deal with the voracious appetites of browsing deer on their properties. Some folks even throw in the towel and give up on their plants altogether.
Deer don't just eat your stuff, but they trample and dig it up as well. Bucks will use young trees as antler rubs which can often kill the tree.
How do we handle these creatures.
Best way to deal with deer is to use a number of methods at one time. There are many spray concoctions on the market such as Deer Off which will work. Problem is, after a rain, they have to be reapplied and generally, it's been my experience that you need to apply more often then the monthly application recommended on many labels.
If spraying your posies and shrubbery is too much of a pita ( to most people it is), then it's best to start off with plants that deer are known to avoid.
I've devoted this page to just that. I have listed the following SAMPLING of resistant plants based on my almost 40 years of experience in the landscaping industry.
Remember though, there are NO guarantees and some deer will try anything.
